RIKEN actively considers how to incorporate unique support systems that facilitate a research environment that is friendly to everyone.

Fertility treatment leave
Female employees may take up to five days of leave within a fiscal year when it is considered adequate not to work due to medical attention she requires for fertility treatment, etc. (or 10 days per fiscal year if treatment includes in-vitro fertilization or micro fertilization).

Special paid leave to assist pregnant spouse or provide childcare for the child in the family during the six weeks before and eight weeks after childbirth
Male employees may take up to five days of paid leave to assist their pregnant spouse or provide childcare during the six weeks before and eight weeks after childbirth.
Special paid leave when an employee’s spouse gives birth
Male employees may take special paid leave for up to three days when their spouse gives birth.

Pregnancy checkups
Eligible employees may take time off work to have checkups and obtain health guidance, as stipulated by the Maternal and Child Health Law.

Childcare leave
Eligible employees may take childcare leave for a certain period of time until their child reaches age 3.
Nursing care leave
Eligible employees may take up to five days of leave per fiscal year for your child’s nursing, vaccinations, and medical checkups. (If the employee has two or more children who are not yet in elementary school, the employee can take up to 10 days off in a fiscal year).

Work attendance exemption for childcare
Eligible employees may be exempted from commuting to work in the initial childcare period, based on the supplementary regulations for exemption from commuting to work.
Discount vouchers for babysitting services
RIKEN is an approved employer of the “Company-led Babysitting Discount Vouchers Support Program” supported by Children and Families Agency, and issues discount vouchers to support researchers and employees balancing work and childcare. The system subsidizes a portion of babysitting service fees when using the service under certain conditions.
Special paid leave to care for family members
Employees can take this special leave to care for their family members, including to take them to clinics and to apply for available nursing care services. Employees may take a maximum of five days of special paid leave to care for family members per fiscal year. (If two or more family members require nursing care, the employee may take a maximum of 10 days of this special paid leave per fiscal year.)
