Promotion of diversity
RIKEN will continue to promote initiatives such as establishing a leading research environment to secure more diverse human resources. In order to encourage further advancement of female researchers and others, efforts need to be made to balance work and family based on the philosophy of gender equality so that research and development activities can be continued during and after childbirth, childcare and nursing care.
We will further strengthen the foreign language assistance in the administrative divisions in order to facilitate the internationalized environment, including various support for foreign researchers. We will also review and improve various approaches already introduced to enhance the convenience.
In addition, we will work on supporting employment of people with disabilities in the institute as a whole.
We strive to maintain and improve the proportion of female researchers who are in leading positions (“at least around 10%” for the Third Mid- to Long-term Plan target) and make efforts to develop and attain female researchers who are in leading positions as 45 cumulative females during the applicable period of Mid- to Long-term Plan. We also plan to ensure diversity within the institute by maintaining the ratio of foreign researchers (about 20% for the Third Mid- to Long-term Plan target).
